READING IS CHIC!

All hail Kaiser Karl!

Here's what I believe in:

1. Smart girls are sexy!
2. If it can't fit a book, it can't qualify as an "IT" bag.
3. To read only one type of genre is like wearing the same outfit everyday!
4. Teaching kids to love reading is just as important as teaching them good grooming.
5. Uncle Karl thinks reading is cool....'nuff said!

What are you reading?

Havaianas Top MiX and Tie -Dye Jeans......

You know how I love, love, love tie-dye, right? And that  I even have tie-dye dinner napkins!? You didn't? Well I do, and I also have tie-dye underwear (but that was  a laundry accident, so I'm not sure that really counts as "Tie-Dye"). Then you can understand how I'm just  dying to wear tie-dye jeans with the NEW Havaianas Top Mix and a blousy white top . After looking up and down Singapore for a pair with a good dark wash-to-white spots ratio,  I was so,so, so, so, so excited to have found one in Forever21 for $40 ...  DRESSING ROOM REALITY CHECK MOMENT:  Wot da ?!!!  Nooooooooo!!!I just don't have the correct hip-to-thigh  ratio for this type of jean..WhArrrggghhh!  Then I burst into boisterous tears.  My recollection of the events after are  a bit hazy. But I do recall a nervous salesperson  collected me from the dressing room floor because my sister in law P, was having none of my histrionics over a pair of jeans and was pretending not to know me . The kind manager offered me tissues and  tried to console me by showing me some shiny sequined tube tops. I politely declined the tube tops and reassured the other customers around me loudly that " I will survive this fashion disaster.... this too shall pass,....it takes more than a pair of jeans to get a good woman down....." Having ran out of  patience for my melodrama, P used  the end of her umbrella to poke my behind, and thus I was ushered  out of the store....  Since I'm not one to dwell on "what could have been", I'm slowly brainwashing  mini-sassy that SHE needs tie-dye jeans in her closet! What's the use in having a daughter if one can't  live  out one's fashion dreams vicariously through them, right? I mean Seriously!!  At least , mini sassy and I are  finally the same  Havaianas size  and can share the Havaianas Top MIX. so I think I really WILL survive this fashion depression after all...

XOXO,
sassy

Happy Friday!!!

hahahaha! Hope you have a fun weekend planned! I am going to escape to Regency England and read a Georgette Heyer novel in my Havaianas!

A Perfume Review: Escentric Molecule 01

Okay, so you may not know this about me but I cyberstalk/ diligently seek out articles about my favorite fashion inspirations...
A few months back, I came across an interview of the ever-fabulous Giovanna Battaglia wherein she revealed that the perfume she uses is called Escentric Molecules  and it's from a little  German perfume company. What's that? I had never heard of it. I'm usually  a Jo Malone/ Miller Harris kinda girl..... but goshdarnit! if I can't have Gio's body/wardrobe/style, I can have her scent! So after  hours of extensive research and numerous futile phone calls around Singapore, I buckled down and ordered some samples from http://www.luckyscent.com/ .
While most perfumes have an armlong list of ingredients, Escentric Molecules is 65% made of  ISO E SUPER. This is  the usual synthetic base component of most perfumes, but Escentric molecule 01 has it in the highest concentration.
The  bottomline on write-ups of this perfume is , and to paraphrase Giovanna Battaglia's comments, Escentric Molecules is  like wearing a pheromone. People want to sit closer to you, guys go wild, girls stop you in the street to ask what perfume you are wearing, etc etc. So, I had high expectations
Now,  some people say it smells chemically, some people talk about  a woodsy sillage  and  a fresh basenote.... I can't really tell you if I agree or disagree with whatever has been said because I can't smell the darned thing! It is the emperor's new clothes of perfume to me! So,  I'll just have to tell you  how the people around me experienced it. Consider this:
Normally, when I walk past J after spritzing perfume, he goes into a coughing fit and grabs tissues to wipe his tearing eyes ( even if it's just Annick Goutal's Eau du Sud which is the gentlest of scents). This time..... well, let's just say it wasn't  the tissue he grabbed.
Furthermore, Hugo, the Havaianas hound , insisted on sitting on my lap all morning. The grumpy lady at our favorite Chinese restaurant even grabbed my arm to sit me down and was all smiles. I  think I was this close to getting a free egg tart even! The delivery boy was actually "sniffing" the air but due to the language barrier, I couldn't ask him what he thought. But Wow!  If the purpose of a perfume is to attract, seduce, subjugate... then, this stuff really works! I have never had that type of reaction to any perfume I ever wore!!
Now it's not cheap, and I'm going to have to repurpose one of those mason jars I'm recycling into a piggybank so I can save up for a whole bottle but ... like The Emperor's New Clothes, I am parading this scent through town, baby!

sassy

The Best Banana Bread Ever!

Banana Bread is pretty easy to make and this particular recipe is sooo decadent and delicious!

Banana Bread:

375g/12 oz  All Purpose Flour
1tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla essence
3 eggs
4 ripe bananas
125 ml/4 fl.oz vegetable oil
200 g white sugar
100 g brown sugar
zest of 1 lemon

Preheat the oven to 180C (350F). Butter a loaf tin.
Peel and mash the bananas into a smooth paste in a mixing bowl.
Add all the ingredients and mix REALLY well.
Spoon the batter into loaf tin. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
Let cool and transfer to serving dish.

Easy-peacy and yummy!

The most beautiful princess in the world wears Havaianas.......

When Charlotte Casiraghi was born, her mother Princess Caroline of Monaco requested no royal title be bestowed upon  her children to shield them from public scrutiny. But this grand daughter of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco is a princess in my book. Okay, so aside from being born to Monegasque royalty, she's also won genetic lotto- look at that bone structure, that skin and those lips!!! And also, she's got a sense of style that is interesting and modern - for a royal. Her B.F., Alex Dellal, is Brazilian so it's no wonder that this princess is a Havaianista too!I am loving that black gown that she's wearing to a state event with Prince Albert.... and how old does Kate Moss look next to this fresh-faced beauty?!!
